Benedictine High School Announces Brian Stephenson as Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator & Track Director
Cleveland, Ohio — Benedictine High School is proud to announce the addition of Brian Stephenson to its football program, bringing more than 15 years of experience as an offensive coordinator, position coach, and program builder at the high school and independent school levels.
Stephenson most recently served as the Offensive Coordinator at University School (Ohio), where he implemented a modern, multiple offensive system across grades 9–12. In his first season, the offense produced more than 3,100 total yards—its highest output since 2022—and developed the program’s first 1,000-yard rusher in three seasons. Both the freshman and junior varsity teams finished undefeated, reflecting a unified and developmental approach throughout the program.
Previously, Stephenson was part of the staff at Cleveland Heights High School, helping guide the program to a 17–7 record over two seasons, including an 11–2 campaign and the deepest playoff run in school history. His work contributed to the development of multiple All-State players and more than ten collegiate offensive skill athletes.
Stephenson is best known for his nine-year tenure at Woodberry Forest School (Va.), where he served in multiple leadership roles, including Offensive Coordinator, Assistant Head Coach, and JV Head Coach. During that span, the program compiled a 69–14–1 record, captured eight Prep League championships, and earned five No. 1 state rankings. His offensive units produced school-record passing and scoring totals and developed players who earned USA Today All-State and Army All-American honors.
In addition to his football background, Stephenson brings extensive experience in track and field and speed development, having coached multiple sub-11.0 sprinters and contributed to seven league and seven state championships. His emphasis on explosiveness, efficiency, and player durability is a cornerstone of his coaching philosophy.
A native of Lima, Ohio, Stephenson is a 2009 graduate of Yale University, where he was a member of the Bulldogs football program and earned the 2008 Special Teams Player of the Year award. He has also participated in USA Football’s National Developmental Games and completed the Scouting Academy.
“Brian’s blend of innovation, leadership, and commitment to player development aligns perfectly with our mission to build young men on and off the field,” said John Carter, Athletic Director. “We are excited to welcome him back to our program and community.”
